CHEESEBURGER PRINCESS

The Cheese Burger- Delicious, fattening, unpretentious, messy and filling. One of my favorite  dishes on the planet! When made with great beef, i.e. Pat LaFrieda http://www.lafrieda.com/ can be so damn juicy, bangin' and wonderful! The only thing worse then wasted talent is a dish that has been thrown together by someone who wants to be cheap about the ingredients that they are using!

I have tried so many different burgers around the city and actually used to be obsessed with them years ago. An old boyfriend from a long time ago, used to call me the "Cheeseburger Princess" because I would trash a lot of the burgers that we had together. Looking back at it now, I used to say the craziest sh!t to this poor dude. Things like, "This meat is dryer than my grandma's punani, this lettuce looks like someone wiped their ass with it or my favorite this burger tastes like Fancy Feast with a piece of kraft single cheese in it being humped by a soggy ass bun."  Man, God bless that boy for putting up with my less than charming crass comments and many times taking care of the bill afterwards; when he wasn't broke, which now that I think about it, was not that often!

Why was I even so critical? Maybe I just didn't like him all that much and it wasn't about the burger?  Naaaah those burgers were wack!  I don't even remember the places that we used to go to but I did love him a lot at one point. The truth is that I got this critical crass side from my dad who always had something to say.  God rest his soul, one of the funniest people that I ever came across... I miss him so much! But seriously, where did my "good taste in burgers" come from?! At this point, I had never really had an amazing burger just yet! The bigger question is why did I keep on eating sh!tty burgers? As the years went on, I discovered a lot of very good burgers i.e. PJ Clarks, Peter Lugers, J.G. Mellon, Corner Bistro and many more... All of a sudden I found myself being nicer while eating my burger and saying things like, "Wow, who ever made this burger is a saint, this beef is like butter, I feel so blessed to be eating like a queen right now or this is better than shopping and sex combined!" Oh yeah, I really said that!

Then, I really started to discover those next level type burgers. The best burgers around town, by reading up on line and hanging out with people who loved food. Gastronomists if you want to be technical about it.  The sad part is that my ex and I went "splitsville happy" before I could even have him experience a wonderful burger with me and to this day I sometimes think, "I wonder if he even knows what a great burger is..."  I should totally take him out for one, one of the these days... Anyway, in honor of my ex from back in the day, who I was happy to find out is now engaged and in honor of me the so called "Cheese Burger Princess" who is currently dating all the wrong people, cheese or no cheese, I came up with a list of  My Top 5 Most Ballin' & Bangin' Burgers in Manhattan. PS. I wonder if Josh Ozersky a.k.a Mr. Cutlets a.k.a. The O.G. Cheese Burger Connoisseur would approve...

  4. I'm totally down with this list. Lots of overlap with my own top five! And all could easily be on my top ten. I think Five Napkin is good, but far too big for it's own good; that's my only reservation. Maybe hit the Spotted Pig, Fatty Johnsons, and RUB next.
